This caused a group of Arsenal players to surround the official, angrily arguing over the decision.
It all proved irrelevant as VAR intervened and the penalty was overturned, with Gabriel’s red card downgraded to yellow and Arsenal would hang on to win 1-0 in West Yorkshire.

However, the FA has still stepped in and accuse Arsenal of their players not acting in an ‘orderly fashion’ during the incident.

An FA statement read: ‘Arsenal FC have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture against Leeds United FC on Sunday 16 October 2022.

‘It’s alleged that the club failed to ensure that their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 92nd minute of the fixture. Arsenal FC have until Monday 24 October 2022 to provide a response.’

After the match Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: ‘It’s always hectic at Leeds but we found a way to win. And this was a special win. We made too many mistakes, failed to close the game in the first half but credit to Leeds in the second half.

‘They were really, really good but I love the resilience, the fight, the character and the courage my team showed. We found a way to win.’
